Craters of the Moon

Craters of the Moon is a national monument run by the U.S. Park Service.  It is located in central Idaho.  The visitor's center is near Arco, Idaho.

The oldest flows here are 15,000 years old, while the youngest ones are about 2000 years old.  These look quite fresh, perhaps because of the dry desert environment.

Wikipedia has an extensive entry on the geology and history of Craters of the Moon.

I stopped by here with my parents this past Monday and got some good photos, many from the summit of Inferno Cone.
